The Atlanta Falcons were heavily represented at Georgia’s Pro Day yesterday. The Falcons had 22 representatives in Athens to check out the Bulldogs’ 2025 NFL Draft prospects, and those representatives included both General Manager Terry Fontenot and Head Coach Raheem Morris.
Earlier today, Co-Owner and Publisher of Dawgs HQ Rusty Mansell joined The Morning Shift, and Rusty, Mike, and Robb talked about how there could be a scenario where the Falcons could possibly draft two Georgia players with their first two picks in the draft.
“If we trade back eight spots and we end up with Malaki Starks at 25 and we get a third round pick, sign me up.” Rusty said
There’s a tweet that went viral yesterday where you see Malaki Starks doing a drill during Georgia’s Pro Day, and in the background you can faintly hear Falcons Defensive Coordinator Jeff Ulbrich say “Goodness gracious. That’s different. That might be the safest pick in the draft.”.
Fontenot joined The Morning Shift late last month and said the organization does “have to explore those ideas of moving back and of picking up more draft capital”, so after Fontenot telling The Morning Shift that and hearing Ulbrich say that in that viral video, the idea of the Falcons trading back, picking later in the first round, drafting Malaki Starks, and picking up an extra pick isn’t far fetched.
With that extra draft pick that means the Falcons could either use that pick, or with the flexibility of that extra pick, now use their second round pick to possibly draft Georgia Center Jared Wilson who Rusty says everybody in Georgia’s building says Wilson is a better play than Sedrick Van Pran who was a fifth round pick of the Buffalo Bills in last year.
If the Falcons trade back there is a scenario where their first two picks could be Georgia players and that would not only make a lot of Falcons fans happy, but be two picks that fill needs with two very good players.
