Why Falcons don't need to leverage their future by drafting a QB

The Falcons have a looming quarterback decision as the legal tampering window opens up on Monday afternoon. Should they target a veteran quarterback rather than trading up in the upcoming draft?

Rumors continue to swirl around the Atlanta Falcons as the legal tampering period kicks off at noon on Monday afternoon. The next quarterback that will help kick off the Raheem Morris era is still a lingering question mark -- but should it be?

The Steakhouse was adamant that the next man under center in Atlanta should be a free agent quarterback named Kirk Cousins.

"It's time to get a grownup in the room," Drew Butler said about elevating the quarterback position. "The Falcons do not need to mortgage their future to move up into the draft, which is historically a crap shoot. Look at what just happened to the 2021 quarterback draft class! You just don't know."

The franchise will have about $37.48 million available in cap space, according to Spotrac. That will make it a little bit more difficult to sign Kirk Cousins, who could command as much as $40 million per season.

"It's time to spend money," Butler continued. "Bring in a quarterback that can immediately vault the Falcons into playoff potential! And that quarterback, without a doubt, is Kirk Cousins. Spend the money!"
