As this year’s quarterback class that’s making the jump from college to the NFL continues to be scouted and evaluated, stronger opinions about this year’s quarterback prospects continue to be formulated, and right now it seems like a wider gap is forming between Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, and the rest of the quarterback class. Earlier today The Morning Shift explained why they’re starting to worry about the quarterbacks in this year’s draft.

“I like Caleb [Williams] best but not that huge of a gap between he and Jayden Daniels, and then I think there’s a really big gap after that.” Former NFL Network Analyst and former Vice President of Player Evaluation for the New York Giants Marc Ross said that about this year’s quarterback class when he joined The Morning Shift yesterday.

That’s not only the person that got The Morning Shift worried about the quarterbacks in this year’s draft, former NFL quarterback Chris Simms also expressed how he’s not confident in one particular prospect turning into a successful NFL quarterback.

“There’s no way evaluators, coaches, quarterbacks, any of that are going to be able to get behind like right now in Drake Maye and go oh yeah he’s ready to go he should be the number two or number three pick in the draft, no way. There’s too many things about his game that need to be polished, better, improved, whatever it may be.”

That aligns with what Marc Ross was saying as well, so if the Falcons don’t end up signing Kirk Cousins, Russell Wilson, Baker Mayfield, or trade for Justin Fields they will potentially have to go all in and trade up to the number two overall pick. However, the problem is the Washington Commanders have the second overall pick and it is widely believed they are going to draft a quarterback, so the Falcons will either have to give up a lot of draft capital to get Washington to trade the pick, or the Commanders may not even be willing to trade the pick.

If Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels are the first two picks that will leave the Falcons with the choice of either drafting a project quarterback who may or may not prove to be capable of being a franchise quarterback, or bringing in a veteran quarterback such as Kirk Cousins, Russell Wilson, Baker Mayfield, or Justin Fields.
