The Atlanta Falcons continue to interview candidates for the vacant defensive coordinator position. As they begin to narrow down their list, the team should look to bring in coaches who have not had prior ties to the organization or those with positions on Raheem Morris' staff. A fresh set of eyes is needed for the team to get back on track after Jimmy Lake could not get the job done in 2024.
Whoever gets the job will be tasked with getting the most out of a flawed defensive roster but one that also could be bolstered with the No. 15 overall pick in April's NFL Draft. It remains to be seen, however, if the team will pivot from their usual strategy of taking the best player on their board.
The Falcons' defensive woes have been well documented going well before Raheem Morris took over as the coach. Getting the opposing quarterback on the ground and allowing explosive plays followed the team in 2024 and a fresh perspective will be needed next season to turn those metrics around.
