Earlier today The Morning Shift was talking about what the Atlanta Falcons have done in free agency so far, and explained why they think Falcons General Manager Ian Cunningham and the rest of Atlanta’s front office are signing players that give them optionality for next season when it comes to cap space and scheme fit.
“I think that they’ve let some guys walk and replaced them with maybe what feels like what they want to do more, but are very similar as far as production and where they could play.” Beau Morgan said
Mike Johnson thinks the optionality comes from more of the financial side, and believes the Falcons are intentionally signing guys to one year deals this offseason, so they can have as much cap space and “optionality” next offseason.
“They have built in some optionality here when it comes to this roster.” Mike Johnson said
The Falcons definitely have seemed like they’re trying to sign guys who they still believe can be productive and can help the team be competitive for this upcoming season while at the same time not committing a lot of years or money to any player this year, so they can maximize their cap space for next offseason.
