Shortly after Richie Grant was selected in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons, his cell phone and social media accounts began to overflow with texts and messages of well wishes and congratulations. Friends, family members, former coaches and teammates all wanted to give Richie kudos for reaching his dreams of making it to the NFL.
However, two of his messages stood out for one unique reason. Not only were these messages filled with congrats and good luck wishes, but they also included “friendly” humor as well.
Grant’s former University of Central Florida teammate Tre’quan Smith and fellow UCF Alum Latavius Murray, both current members of the Falcons biggest rival, the New Orleans Saints, not only wanted to welcome Richie to the NFL, but send him a friendly reminder that they will see him twice a year in their annual NFC South Division showdowns!
Grant, who was on earlier this week with Dukes and Bell claimed he had a “gut feeling” that the Falcons would call his name during the 2021 NFL Draft. Richie, says he looks forward to playing all over the defensive backfield in Defensive Coordinator Dean Pees system. He feels that “as quick as he can get the playbook, is as quick as I will be out there playing.”
With that kind of confidence, Smith and Murray may want to careful with those “friendly” jokes in the future!
Welcome to Atlanta Richie!
