The Atlanta Falcons have a lot of options in the upcoming NFL draft. Tom Pelissero, of NFL Network, reports that there have been no discussions of a trade with other teams for Matt Ryan. With Ryan more than likely being on the Falcons roster at least for the 2021 season, there has to be a decision made with the future in mind at that position.
They have to take in consideration whether or not they will be able to compete with their roster as it is currently constructed. If the answer to that question is yes, they have to make a forward-thinking decision. Teams who compete for the playoffs don't pick in the top 5.
Eric Edholm, of Yahoo! Sports, joined The Jon Chuckery Show and tried to make sense of what the Falcons are faced with. Edholm gave a scenario that had Justin Fields available when the Falcons are on the clock. "I think you have to do it," Edholm said.
Matt Ryan has done a lot of good for the Falcons organization and he will probably go down as the best quarterback in Falcons history. But this new regime has to think for the present and the future.
