The Atlanta Falcons dropped their third straight game on Sunday after another brutal performance from their quarterback. The Falcons held the Chargers to fewer than 200 yards of offense, sacked the quarterback five times, gave up just 10 first downs, didn't allow an offensive touchdown, and dominated the time of possession. They lost, however, 17-13.
The reason the Falcons lost was because of their quarterback. Kirk Cousins threw four interceptions, with one of those taken back for the game-winning touchdown. After the third consecutive brutal performance, is it time to consider bringing in Michael Penix to relieve him?
The Steakhouse discussed the potential of a move on Monday morning.
"The arm strength, when you watch it live, is disconcerting because I've been to a bunch of home games and it looks worse than it's ever been," Steak said about the performance of Cousins. "What really struck me is just how uneasy he is back there, in terms of pressure, and that you're playing a modern-day NFL... there's relative mobility and lack of mobility, but Kirk Cousins literally can't get you two yards."
It was a bad day for Cousins, made exponentially worse by the fact that a potential solution was standing idly by on the sideline. After the third interception, it was clear that he didn't have it on Sunday. Why not give Penix a few drives to see if he could manufacture something?
"You drafted [Penix] to play at some point," Steak continued. "Why is he there? When do you play him? Kirk Cousins had the worst game of his life, clearly something was wrong with him."
Sunday's performance was a continuation of a terrible trend. In his last three games, Cousins has thrown for zero touchdowns and six interceptions. After the dismal stretch, he now leads the NFL with 13 regular season picks.
"Kirk Cousins was awful [against New Orleans], the Denver game, this game," Steak said. "Where has he carried you? To .500 in the worst division in the NFL? Carried you? He's carrying you into the abyss!"
Raheem Morris confirmed in his postgame press conference that Cousins would be the starting quarterback next week in Minnesota, but the questions will keep getting asked until things turn around. Listen to the clip above for the full discussion from The Steakhouse on Monday.
