The Tampa Bay Buccaneers won the NFC South in 2021, ending the New Orleans Saints four year run on top of the division.

With future Hall of Famer Tom Brady deciding to retire, and promptly unretire and return for 2022, most experts have picked Tampa Bay to repeat as division champions, as the Bucs attempt to make one more run at a Super Bowl title.

However, after the Bucs, the picture in the division is very blurry.

The Panthers have huge questions at QB as Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold are in a battle during training camp to win the job and former MVP candidate Christian McCaffrey has been injury plagued over the past several seasons.

In New Orleans, QB Jameis Winston is the clear No. 1 on the depth chart with Taysom Hill being moved to TE full time, but the Saints will be without their best offensive player, RB Alvin Kamara for the first six games of the season while he serves out a suspension.

Lastly, the Falcons are a young but talented team that could go surprise some teams if they play well in the second year under HC Arthur Smith.

Could the Falcons challenge to be the second best team in the division?

Miles Garrett from FOX 5 Atlanta joined Sam & Greg on the weekends, and was optimistic that the Falcons might can be better than some have predicted.

“I really think the race for second place in this division is a lot closer than people think” commented Miles when asked by Sam & Greg how he thinks the NFC South will finish in 2022.

“There is so much uncertainty,” said Miles when starting to look around the division.

“Matt Rhule is essentially coaching for his job, and the Saints are the same way as well,” emphasized Miles when breaking down some of the questions each team in the division will need to answer in 2022.

One of Miles’ final comments when regarding the Falcons was, “It’s perhaps an opportunity for the Falcons to maybe make some noise.”
