Why Jordan Fuller won’t stop Falcons from drafting best player available at No. 15

The Morning Shift explains why the Falcons signing safety Jordan Fuller will not affect what the Falcons do in the draft

It was reported yesterday by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero that the Atlanta Falcons are signing safety Jordan Fuller, and earlier today The Morning Shift reacted to the signing, and explained why this signing has no bearing on who the Falcons will draft with the 15th overall pick.

“I don’t know how much clearer or how much more people have to be slapped in the face with the way this team drafts to understand that they don’t care what’s on the roster, they go best player available.” Beau Morgan said

During Terry Fontenot’s time as the Falcons’ General Manager he has proven every year the Falcons will draft the best player available no matter what moves the team made during free agency, or what the roster looks like.

In 2021 he drafted Kyle Pitts despite then quarterback Matt Ryan’s unsure future with the team, and of course the team’s need for a pass rusher. In 2022 and 2023 with the team still needing pass rush help and having other needs Fontenot drafted Drake London and Bijan Robinson, and of course last season after signing Kirk Cousins in free agency Terry still drafted Michael Penix Jr. with the eighth overall pick, so ever since becoming the Falcons GM in 2021 Fontenot has always been true to his word and has always drafted who he thought was the best player available.

This offseason the Falcons have signed a free agent at every level of the defense, and Beau uses that fact to further explain why the signing of Jordan Fuller doesn’t have any bearing on what the team will do in the draft saying that the Falcons signing Leonard Floyd doesn’t mean they won’t draft an edge rusher.

“It doesn’t matter, we’ve gotta stop thinking that the Falcons are piecing this defense one piece at a time, and every time they do something in free agency it goes into the category of well this is what we don’t need this year.” Beau said

If anything the Jordan Fuller signing sets the Falcons up to draft best player available because after bringing in Leonard Floyd, Divine Deablo, Morgan Fox, and bringing back, Mike Hughes and TaQuon Graham the Falcons were in a position where they at least had some solid depth at every position on defense but safety, but after signing Fuller and adding him to their safety room Terry Fontenot is truly set up to do what he was going to do no matter what and that’s draft the best player available.
