The Falcons final preseason game was on Sunday night, a 19-10 loss, and despite warming up and being in uniform, QB Matt Ryan did not take any snaps.
This is the second consecutive preseason in which Ryan didn't play as there were no exhibition games in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
While many starting QB's across the league did play, including Browns starter Baker Mayfield, Ryan and Head Coach Arthur Smith decided that the joint practices against the Dolphins would serve as Ryan's preseason.
In his postgame comments, Arthur Smith explained that there was never a plan to play Matt Ryan during the preseason
While some felt that Ryan was going to play, especially after he went through pregame warmups, it seems that was both a literal and figurative 'going through the motions' for the 14th year QB.
Maybe not playing a preseason last year showed Ryan he doesn't really need one, but it is still to be seen if he gets off to a quick start on the year.
Ryan wasn't the only Falcons player to sit out, Calvin Ridley, Grady Jarrett, Deion Jones, and Jake Matthews also didn't play.
