As the Atlanta Falcons look to regroup and bring their four game losing streak to an end, they also find themselves searching for ways to help Michael Penix Jr. operate their offense as the second year quarterback struggled in Atlanta’s 31-25 overtime loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday as he finished completing just 12 passes on 28 attempts for 177 yards and 1 passing touchdown.

“He’s taking steps forward, he’s taking steps back,” Atlanta Falcons Radio Network analyst and former Falcons quarterback, Dave Archer, said on Tuesday as he joined 92-9 The Game’s Mike Bell and Abe Gordon, to discuss the Falcons’ signal caller and the inconsistencies with his play.

“There are some things that he has to continue to work on to get better at from a footwork standpoint,” Archer continued as he explained why he believes Penix Jr.’s mechanics in regards to moving within the pocket, have room for improvement and may be related to the style of play and system he was in during his time in college.

“It happens to a lot of quarterbacks that play a lot of college football, which he did, and you play the bulk of your career now in college is not under center, it’s in the shotgun or in the pistol, which is what he did. You have a tendency to let your feet go dead on you,” Archer explained as he shared his thoughts on what Penix Jr. may be struggling with.
