Throughout the entire offseason, the entirety of training camp, and the entirety of the preseason Atlanta Falcons fans, media pundits, and talking heads have all had their doubts about Mike Hughes being the second cornerback opposite A.J. Terrell.

There were many questions about whether or not the Falcons would draft a cornerback or bring in a free agent cornerback before the season started, but Terry Fontenot, Raheem Morris, Jimmy Lake, and the Falcons never wavered on Hughes or any of the guys on the roster, and ever since Hughes got the second cornerback job he’s been proving the Falcons right and the doubters wrong.

Earlier today The Morning Shift broke down how Mike Hughes has been everything this Falcons defense would have hoped for so far this season.

“He has been everything you could’ve possibly asked for him to be in that role opposite AJ Terrell.” Mike Johnson said.

Beau Morgan brought to light some very interesting stats during this conversation about Mike Hughes as well. According to Pro Football Focus Hughes is the 14th best defensive back through the first two weeks of the season, and he’s the fourth best cornerback against the run right now with a grade of 84.

Also according to Pro Football Focus the former first round pick has only allowed three receiving yards in 46 coverage snaps, leads the league in run stops with six, and already has three tackles for loss on the season as well.

All offseason Hughes showed he was talented enough to be the second cornerback opposite A.J. Terrell, and now he has rightfully cemented himself as that after two weeks of strong play.
