One offensive series was all you needed to see from Ridder, Falcons

Falcons gain 78 yards before opening drive turnover

Friday night's opening drive by the Atlanta Falcons featured just about everything you'd want to see.

Desmond Ridder completed 7 of 9 passes for 80 yards. Bijan Robinson's first run was a beauty, with all the shiftiness and burst you'd hope to see. Drake London and Kyle Pitts both had catches. It also featured some things you didn't think you'd see, like multiple penalties from Chris Lindstrom.

Taking in all the good, and the bad, Falcons color analyst Coy Wire told the Steakhouse Monday morning that one drive was all he needed to see against the Bengals for the starters.

"I saw exactly what I wanted to see from that first team," Wire told Steak and Rusty Mansell. "They put together a 10-minute drive, and despite penalties, they still persevered. And all the three players (Bijan, Drake, Kyle) you wanted to see flash, they all made stellar plays."

While Ridder wasn't able to finish the first drive with points on the board, Wire feels that he did more than enough to show his growth going into Year 2. "He didn't get that look that you see from a lot of young quarterbacks - that deer-in-the-headlights look."

Even though it's one drive, there was more than enough shown by the offense to get fans excited. "We saw overall from that offense what it's going to be. It's going to be a long, drag you out, punch you in the mouth running game, but now they have all the bells and whistles to put some wow factor into it too."
