There is a heavy belief amongst local media, national media, and the fan base that the Atlanta Falcons will draft an edge rusher with the 15th overall pick in this years’ NFL Draft. However, there is the possibility they could end up drafting a cornerback, especially if top cornerback Will Johnson is there at 15, but earlier today The Morning Shift explained why it makes the most economical sense for the Falcons to sign a cornerback in free agency and then draft an edge rusher.

“It’s way more economical to go out and sign a corner that you feel like can start day one than it is to go out and sign an edge rusher that you feel like can start day one, like the edge rushers literally cost three times the amount that corners do when you talk about free agency and actually contributing as soon as they get here.” Mike Johnson said

Even with the recent salary cap increase the Falcons still have work to do and will have some hard decisions to make to get to a good place when it comes to the salary cap, and with the Falcons needing to save all the money they can while at the same time get all the pass rush they can to Mike’s point it makes more sense for the Falcons to maybe just double down on pass rush in the draft, and address the other cornerback spot in free agency.
