The Falcons have a little over a week to decide who will and will not be on the opening 53 man roster, and while it’s not known how the final 53 man roster will look yet. Former Atlanta Falcons quarterback and now Falcons Radio Network Analyst Dave Archer joined The Morning Shit earlier today, and explained why the Falcons are going to have to make some “tough” decisions when it’s time to cut the roster down to the final 53.
“Yea it’s going to be tough Beau there’s no question about it. We talked a little bit about this in the pregame. I know Mike and I were discussing it a number of times out at practice. This is a more talented roster than Atlanta’s had in recent years, and so you’re gonna be in a position where you’re gonna have to cut some guys that can play in the National Football League, and will probably be playing not too many Sunday’s beyond the opening day day Sunday for someone else and that’s the unfortunate part about it.”Dave Archer said.
Arch continued by saying that “I mean the best part about it, you’re in great position that you think your roster is going to be pretty talented and deep with the guys you keep, but you can’t get caught up in letting guys go that you feel like can play because at some point that was the way you wanted the roster. You want it to be in a position to where that was the problem you had is you were going to have to cut some guys that can play.”
Dave also mentioned that the 16-man practice squad will help the Falcons keep some of the guys around too, but still the Falcons are going to have some very tough decisions to make, but like Arch said that just means you have a lot of depth to feel good about, and a really good roster which are all good things for a Falcons team that is trying to make the playoffs for the first time since 2017 and win the NFC South for the first time since 2016.
