The Atlanta Falcons beat the Carolina Panthers 24-10 to open the 2023 season with a victory. Despite moving to over .500 for the first time since 2017, the game didn't play out perfectly for the Falcons. Desmond Ridder didn't have the most impressive numbers, but even more concerning was Falcons receiver Drake London's stat line of zero catches.

London, who averaged over six catches a game during the final four games of 2022 in Desmond Ridder's four starts, was targeted only once on Sunday, a catchable ball that he dropped. He didn't see the ball head his way again.

While the game plan, especially in the second half, was a bit run-heavy, it's still a surprise to see London completely shut out. Kyle Pitts, Mack Hollins, Bijan Robinson, and even Tyler Allgeier had more targets and catches than London.

There were a number of factors that led to London's Week 1 showing. The offensive play-calling and the offensive line's struggling to give Ridder time were certainly to be considered. You can also question if London was able to find space and get open.

The good news, as Falcons head coach Arthur Smith pointed out in a viral response post-game, is that the Falcons were able to win a divisional game by two touchdowns despite the stats. The team will work to be better in the future.
