A lot of people thought that the Falcons third-round pick Bralen Trice was going to be the guy who would surprise a lot of people in his rookie season, and show that he deserved to be drafted higher than 74th overall. Unfortunately, Trice won’t get that opportunity now after tearing his ACL in the first preseason game, but earlier today The Morning Shift explained why Falcons fourth-round pick Brandon Dorlus could actually end up being the most impactful rookie this season.
“No edge guy is great on his own. They need help interior wise, and I think that’s why you have Eddie Goldman back, [David] Onyemata, Ruke Orhorhoro, you have Ta'Quon Graham and Zach Harrison, Brandon Dorlus, Grady Jarrett, Kentavius Street. I love their front. I love the front three of four that they’re gonna have, but especially I think Brandon Dorlus might be at the end of the day the rookie you say, oh wow, he might be the one that has the most impact.” Beau Morgan said.
The versatility the 109th overall pick in April’s draft presents is definitely a reason why he could make an impact and make a big impact early. Earlier this week Dorlus talked about wanting to show he can be a run stopper and not just a pass rusher. The defensive tackle also talked about wanting to be an every down guy and not just a third down guy, and also how watching Grady Jarrett has helped him so far in his young career.
He definitely has the right mind set, and while it’s unfortunate that Trice is out for the season, this may be the opportunity Dorlus needs to show why he can make an impact in year one.
