Why fans shouldn’t overreact to Ulbrich’s opening press conference

For anyone worried about introductory press conferences, they don't really matter

The Atlanta Falcons’ new defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich was introduced to the media on Monday and some people have been quick to critique the ins and outs of his message. The Steakhouse heard some of his comments and they discussed why these press conferences don’t really make much of a difference at all.

"People are agitated with the Falcons in general and they're not going to applaud them for any move in the offseason," Steak said to Sandra.

"When you miss the playoffs for seven years, nobody's going to throw a parade for you for hiring a defensive coordinator," she quickly replied. "I don't care who you get. How about you draft some super studs on the defensive side of the ball, one in particular who can rush the quarterback every now and then."

After hearing some clips from Ulbrich's press conference about getting after the quarterback and the overall mentality of his unit, they quickly dismissed any overreactions that fans might have.

"'[We're going to] get him off the spot,' heard it before; 'Affect the quarterback,' heard it before," Steak reacted, flippantly. "There is absolutely no equation, I don't believe and I've been doing this a long time, that matches up your performance on the podium and your performance of your defense or your offense."

There's an old adage about 'winning the press conference,' but the reality is that it simply doesn't matter. Steak highlighted Dan Campbell's wacky opening comments and the dour nature of a Bill Belichick press conference.

What will matter is who they will get to flesh out the personnel of a struggling Falcons defense. The players on the field will determine if this hire ends up being a success, not anything Ulbrich says (or doesn't) at his opening press conference.
