The Atlanta Falcons announced that Raheem Morris, who coached the Buccaneers from 2009-2011 and the Falcons as an interim in 2020, would take over as the 19th head coach in franchise history. While many were excited, there was also quite a bit of concern about his failures as a head coach previously.
"Raheem Morris was a head coach FIFTEEN years ago. This is a man who is 47 years old, he's not old, he's young. What it takes to succeed in that role and everything that goes into being a leader of a franchise, probably didn't have that," says Andy Bunker. "To be qualified for that job 15 years ago and have it go the way it went and not get another opportunity is to the Falcons benefit. There's something about having so much success so early. To have that happen to you and then fail does one of two things, you either fail and that's that, or inspires you and you grind and say the next time you get that opportunity I'm not going to fail"
"He's got charisma, leadership skills, and he's been continuing getting better at his craft," explains Randy McMichael. "All the influential people he's been around, picking up those things made him a better coach.
