Would an 0-3 start be a kiss of death for Falcons?

The Atlanta Falcons have a brutal start to their season, espcially after starting with a loss. Up next are the Eagles and Chiefs in two prime-time matchups.

Fans knew that the Falcons were going to have a brutal start to the season when schedules came out in the spring. They started with a frustrating 18-10 loss to the Steelers, but now have a trip to Philadelphia and then a visit from the reigning back-to-back Super Bowl Champion Chiefs.

Now at 0-1, the Falcons are staring at a potential worst-case scenario: an 0-3 start.

"0-3 is very, very scary," Sandra said about the prospect of the Falcons dropping their first trio of games on the year.

The odds of a team making the playoffs after starting the season 0-3 is a mere 2.4 percent dating back to 1990. Just four teams have ever done it, and only two of those 162 teams have won their division.

The NFL season is one week old, but overreactions are in full bloom. The week to week performance at this level has tremendous variation and Steak doesn't think we'll see the same team on Monday night.

"Unless you're the worst team in the NFL, you're not going to look the same week to week," Steak said. "So if you think the Falcons are going to go in there again and Drake London is going to have one catch and two targets, or Tyler Allgeier's only going to touch it three times, it's just not going to happen."

The Falcons had a golden opportunity last week against Pittsburgh, but they have to find a positive result over the next two.

An 0-3 start would be about as bad of a start for the Raheem Morris era as there could be. If they wanted to make the playoffs after that start, they would need to win at a 70 percent clip (10 games) to expect a strong chance of making it on their own.

Maybe it's not a "kiss of death", but the goal is still simple: win one of their next two.
