Before the Atlanta Falcons put up 36 points and Kirk Cousins threw for a Falcons franchise record 509 yards last Thursday night in their thrilling 36-30 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in overtime there were questions about the Falcons’ offense, if first time offensive coordinator and play caller Zac Robinson was in over his head, and if Kirk Cousins was still limited because of the achilles injury, but for now those questions seem to have been answered.
Now, fans, analysts, and media pundits are really starting to hop on the Falcons’ bandwagon and believe that the Dirty Birds are legit contenders in the NFC. However, one Senior NFL Columnist for CBSSports.com and analyst for CBSSportsHQ never wavered, and that is Pete Prisco. Earlier today Prisco joined The Morning Shift and explained why he “loves what Zac Robinson has done” in Atlanta and why he thinks Robinson has been "one of the best offensive coaches so far in the league".
“I love what Zac Robinson has done. I mean look, he's made it easy.” Prisco said.
Pete also applauded the first time OC’s play calling in the Buccaneers game, and then went on to explain why he thinks Zac has been one of the best play callers in the NFL so far, and why Robinson will only get better.
“I think Zac Robinson has done a great job scheming guys open, and Kirk Cousins has done a great job standing in there making the throws, and with all those weapons they have, and they do have a lot of weapons they can get creative and I think Zac Robinson has taken advantage of that. I think he’s been one of the best offensive coaches so far in the league, and I think it’s going to continue to get better as he gets more comfortable with the guys on that roster.” Pete said.
After Thursday night’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Falcons’ quarterback Kirk Cousins said that he was starting to “anticipate” where his receivers were going to be and that helped him play “faster” and “throw the ball more decisively”. To Pete’s point on Thursday it seemed like Robinson really started to get comfortable with his play calling and he started to learn what plays to call when and for who.
As Zac’s overall and situational play calling continues to improve along with Kirk Cousins’ chemistry with his receivers this Falcons’ offense should continue to make big strides forward, and hopefully put up more big numbers like they did last Thursday against the Buccaneers.
