Despite the Atlanta Falcons being seventh in total offense, sixth in rush offense, 13th in passing offense, and 10th in third down offense, the Falcons are 26th in scoring and red zone offense, so how can Atlanta score more touchdowns and solve their red zone woes? The Morning Shift gave their thoughts earlier today.
“One carry a game for Michael Penix Jr., just when you get in the red zone allow him to pull it, kind of get it out on the exterior, give him a run pass option.” Mike Johnson said
Mike continued by explaining why he thinks it would benefit Offensive Coordinator Zac Robinson and the Falcons’ offense to use more RPOs and straight up pass plays in short yardage situations on third down and in the red zone.
“The way your offense and your offensive line are kind of put together you’re gonna struggle in tight areas of the field where it could be you know obvious run downs and things like that. Chris Lindstrom is All-Pro, he weighs 305, he’s not gonna be pushing Derrick Brown off the ball.” Mike said
Beau Morgan also added that the creativity that Falcons fans have been wanting to see from Robinson needs to come on short yardage situations.
“You’re not built for those short downs, so if anything yeah I do need Zac Robinson to be more creative, be more creative in those short yardage situations and those instances. I don’t need you to run it every time. I’m fine with having a high percentage throw.” Beau said
Monday night the Falcons face a Buffalo Bills offense that is the NFL’s third best scoring offense averaging 30.6 points per game, and while you hope Atlanta’s defense doesn’t give up 30 points it’s probably fair to say the Falcons’ 19 points per game average probably won’t be enough to get the job done, so Zac Robinson and the Falcons’ offense may want to implement some more RPOs and short passing plays to help fix their red zone woes because they’re going to need to score some points Monday night.
