The Atlanta Hawks put their four game winning streak on the line Friday night at home against the New York Knicks. A big reason the Hawks have been able to string some wins together recently is because they have started fast, and got themselves a big lead early in games. Well, the Hawks started fast offensively, but the Knicks were arguably hotter.

Defense seemed optional early in the game as both the Knicks and the Hawks nearly put up 40 points in the first quarter. At one point in the game the New York Knicks were shooting 80% from the field. Yes, you read that right 80%. At one point the Knicks were 24-30 from the field. However, luckily for the Hawks they were clicking on all cylinders offensively, forcing Knicks turnovers defensively, and crashing the boards to get valuable second chance points throughout the game.

The Atlanta Hawks’ hustle, ball movement, and clutch shooting made this contest between the Hawks and Knicks a back and forth affair. In the second half Dejounte Murray really took over, getting to his sweet spot around the free throw line at will and he simply did not miss.

The Atlanta Hawks would eventually pull away in the fourth quarter as the Hawks became too much for the Knicks to handle. After the game, Dejounte Murray’s efforts on offense and defense did not go unnoticed. Jon Chuckery after the game on The Jon Chuckery Show said “First off Dejounte Murray is the MVP of this team, he is without a doubt the best defender that they have, he’s got a nose for the basketball.”

Jon also went on to say “He’s fundamentally sound, he’s a defensive minded guy, he’s their best defender, most consistent scorer along with Trae Young…” Jon goes on to say “There has been a minimum of six or seven games that this team would not have won last year because of Dejounte Murray. That’s the difference he’s made on this team.”

Trae Young, De’Andre Hunter, John Collins, and some of the other Atlanta Hawks had good games as well. Trae Young had another great game being a facilitator, making sure the ball didn’t stick, taking what the defense gave him, and finishing at the rim or finding open guys off of his dribble penetration.

The Atlanta Hawks have seemed to turn a corner, something has seemed to click with this team, but the main reason the Hawks are on this winning streak is that they are playing good basketball with a fully healthy team, and that is something they haven’t gotten to do a lot so far this season.

The Hawks will look to make it six in a row Saturday night as the Charlotte Hornets come to town.
