Atlanta Hawks promote GM Onsi Saleh and give long-term extension
The Atlanta Hawks may have signaled they have found ‘their man’ to lead the franchise into consistent playoff contention after they announced on Wednesday a promotion and long-term extension for general manager, Onsi Saleh.
“I think Onsi [Saleh] did a great job,” 92-9 The Game’s Carl Dukes, said as he and cohost Mike Bell reacted to the news of the Hawks promoting Saleh to president of basketball operations and extending him long-term in his new role.
However, while impressed with decisions by Saleh, which included trading Trae Young to the Washington Wizards and Kristaps Porzingis to the Golden State Warriors, in addition to the team reaching the Eastern Conference playoffs as the number six seed, “now the pressure is really on,” for Saleh as he heads into year two with the Hawks.
“You did what you did, which helped the team grow and we got into the playoffs, but now we have to go win,” Dukes said as he explained why he believes the Hawks have to take another leap next season as Saleh looks to shape the Hawks into a title contender. “We have to improve on what we did last year,” Dukes said.With 'hard decisions to be made' Hawks leaning into Onsi Saleh
