On the eve of the start of the 2024-2025 NBA season, The Atlanta Hawks announced the signing of a 5-year/$150 million contract extension for forward Jalen Johnson. Johnson is coming off of career highs in both points and rebounds, and the Hawks just made it clear that he is a huge part of their future.
The best part about this contract for the Hawks is probably the $30 million/year price tag. If Jalen Johnson continues on his current trajectory, he will probably be playing for double that when this extension is played out.
With several NBA players making upwards of $50 million, and some in the $60 million range, securing Johnson at $30 million per year should end up being more than a win win for the Hawks. Andy Bunker and Abe Gordon expand on the Jalen Johnson contract and what it means for the Hawks headed in to a season where the playoffs are the current expectation.
