The Atlanta Hawks have traded center Dewayne Dedmon to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for forward Tony Snell and shooting guard Khyri Thomas.
Snell, 29, is a seven-year NBA veteran and averaged 8.0 points per game while shooting 40 from the 3-point line last season as a full-time starter in Detroit.
Snell is set to make $12.2 million next season in the final year of his deal. He also played for the Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks before being traded to the Pistons last year.
Thomas, 24, has played in only 34 career games in his two years in the league, averaging 2.3 points in 7.5 minutes played. He is owed $1.66 million in salary next season but only $744,000 is guaranteed if he remains under contract by Nov. 22.
The Hawks will move on from Dedmon, who is owed $26.6 million over the next two years.
Dedmon was reacquired by Atlanta in February after spending time with them in 2017-19, and started in eight of the 10 games he played, averaging 8.1 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game.
The Hawks could save close to $1 million in this deal if they were to cut Thomas and will now have Dedmon off the books in 2021-22.
