If Hawks want big improvements, they're going to have to go into the luxury tax

The Hawks traded John Collins to Utah to clear up some cap space, and they turned that around and used it to extend Dejounte Murray on Thursday, but many still have hope that the Hawks will continue to add to their roster, possibly through a trade, but to make a big improvement, they will likely have to go into the luxury task.

Atlanta Hawks Broadcaster and Analyst Mike Conti detailed the salary situation the team find themselves in if they want to add a big piece to the core of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray.

"If the Hawks were to trade for a max player, I imagine the total payroll of the Hawks would push them into the tax at that point, but Tony Ressler has said repeatedly he's willing to go into the tax for the right situation," says Mike Conti. "I don't think the tax aspect would be a deal-breaker."
