If the NBA off-season were to end today, would you be happy with the moves the Hawks made? The Hawks have cleared up cap space by trading John Collins, re-signed Dejounte Murray to a very team friendly four year deal, and somehow acquired a sneaky pickup in Patty Mills. These are all positive moves, but it wasn’t the big move Hawks fans were waiting for. It seems as of right now, they are playing the long game and will be looking to make a move later in the season or next off-season with a big free agency list.

The team may not have improved too much on paper, but now having a start to finish season with Coach Quin Snyder, a year of experience between the backcourt of Trae Young and Dejounte Murray, the future can still be very bright this upcoming season. The pickup of the crafty veteran Patty Mills could be more impactful than many may think. Terrell Thomas from, These Urban Times, alluded to this with Sam and Greg on the weekends, “Now that Patty is here, I think he does two things for our backcourt. One, he does finally give our Hawks a stable and a very smart point guard when Trae Young is not in the game. I think he is very efficient from three, so I think that will be positive to see as well. I love the pick.”

Atlanta sports fans are experiencing greatness with Georgia football winning National Championships, the Atlanta Braves winning a World Series and looking like the best team in baseball. Now, all eyes are on the Hawks and if they can live up to that championship expectation as the other sports team in the city. Although they haven’t made a flashy pickup this off-season, they still can make noise in this ever changing eastern conference.
