The Atlanta Hawks are .500 (11-11) through the first 22 games of the season and point guard Trae Young is averaging a new career high in assists as well, averaging over 12 per game, far and away the best number in the NBA this season. Trae's scoring has taken a backseat to his set-up play and the Atlanta Hawks are much improved because of it.
Trae Young is on his way to his lowest-scoring season since his rookie year, currently averaging 20.9 ppg, and it's made the Hawks better. In his last eight games Trae has averaged 14 assists per game, including games when he had 15, 22, 16, and 19 assists.
The reason Trae feels comfortable becoming a facilitator first is the trust he's developed in his teammates, especially Jalen Johnson and De'Andre Hunter. He's also gotten help in the backcourt on both ends from Dyson Daniels.
