The wait is over and the pick is in as the Atlanta Hawks selected Michigan Wolverines guard, Kobe Bufkin, with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. The 6-foot-4, 175 pounds Bufkin, a Grand Rapids, Michigan native, averaged 14 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.9 assist per game last season for the Wolverines and following the Hawks’ selection, 92-9 The Game’s Jon Chuckery, Caleb Johnson, along with Deshaun Tate, discussed the possible plans Atlanta may have for Bufkin.
“This is a young guy and to some extent, a project I would say as a guy they’re going to look to develop,” Johnson said in response to the pick of Bufkin. Prior to the Hawks’ selection, Chuckery, Johnson and Tate shared their thoughts as to what direction Atlanta could be potentially going with the 15th overall pick of the draft, as they all believed in the possibility of whomever the Hawks selected with the pick, would eventually spend their rookie season with the College Park Skyhawks of the G-League.
“When you start talking about a guy like this, you can see it’s the potential thing. This isn’t a come in, do anything right away, this is Skyhawks. That’s what this is,” Tate added as he shared his thoughts on the Hawks selection of Bufkin. As their conversation continued, Chuckery added that “this feels like a College Park pick,” believing that Bufkin’s immediate future will begin with the Skyhawks and that spending time developing in College Park may help Bufkin step into a role in line with Quin Snyder’s reported desire for the Hawks to shoot more three’s.
