“I think Deandre Ayton and Trae Young would be a dynamite combination, Ayton’s defensive ability, his rebounding ability, his lob catching skills at the rim, he’s an excellent screener as well and he would also give the Hawks a pop threat,” McDonough said. “In some ways he’s kind of a combination of Clint Capela and John Collins, even bigger than Capela with a lob threat ability there and then with some of the pick and pop ability and finishing ability away from the rim that Collins has, that would be my first choice.”

Ryan also talked about what Gobert could bring to the Hawks.

“Rudy Gobert is more interesting to me on the Hawks than perhaps any other team, look at strength and weaknesses Trae Young exceptional with the ball in his hands can shoot it, can pass it as well as any young perimeter player in the league. Rudy Gobert hasn’t had a great lob throwing threat in Utah, I think that’s one of the struggles and some of Rudy’s frustration’s with the inability of Utah’s guards, Donovan Mitchell and recently Mike Conley to get him the ball, when he’s open behind the defense at the rim Trae can certainly do that. And then Rudy’s strengths, defense, rebound, physicality really would complement Trae’s weaknesses.”
