New Atlanta Hawks head coach Quin Snyder joined Dukes & Bell exclusively after his introductory press conference and talked about how he plans to develop a relationship with Trae Young and help Young grow as a player.
When asked how coaching Donovan Mitchell can help him with Trae Young.
“You hit it on the head as far as every star and every player, frankly, is different and they need different things from you as a coach, and I think it’s important to try and identify what those things are,” Snyder said. “I think it’s important to know the player and how he sees those things and that communication to come together and kinda have a shared vision of a guy’s growth. If you think a player needs to do something to get better and he doesn’t think it they’re not gonna embrace it the way that you want them to and it’s not gonna happen.”
Snyder talked about the process of getting players to buy in.
“I think that process of really explaining why is important and in Donovan’s case like Trae they’re gifted players and I think understanding why really is foundational as far as getting someone to buy in to," said Snyder. "It’s not what you’re doing it’s what you’re doing together. That’s when I think you make strides with those guys that want to be better and want to be coached.”
