Aiden McFadden's impressive transformation for Atlanta United

From Notre Dame forward to Atlanta United defensive anchor.

Not many are capable of, and less are willing to evolve for the better of those around them. Especially when evolving could mean taking a "lesser role." Luckily for Atlanta United, Aiden McFadden is one of the capable and willing few.

The former Notre Dame forward was known as a scorer in college, scoring eight goals and six assists in his collegiate career. Upon being drafted by Atlanta United in the MLS Superdraft in 2021, and signing with their reserve team, Atlanta United 2, his role has changed.

McFadden started off the season with Atlanta United 2, where he set a franchise record for most goals in a season with eight, before being called up to the main roster back in June. His versatility has allowed coaches to move him throughout the lineup at different positions, such as midfielder, forward, and most impressively, defender.

The 23-year-old's defensive presence was certainly felt in the United's most recent victory over Real Salt Lake on Wednesday night. Drawing fouls and getting the team out of trouble throughout the match due to his relentless effort made him one of the best players on the field.

Atlanta United color commentator, Jason Longshore, joined the Morning Show with John and Hugh on Thursday. When asked about McFadden, he had this to say, "You're not going to find many guys that are harder working than Aiden." For a club that recently had its coach and one of its star players criticizing the effort and grit of some on the roster, Aiden McFadden has been a breath of fresh air.
