The Atlanta United of Major League Soccer announced earlier today team President Darren Eales has resigned from the organization to become CEO of New Castle United of the Premier League (top level of the English football league system).
Eales has been with Atlanta United since the team was announced as an expansion franchise by MLS in 2014.
Under Eales’ leadership, Atlanta United has been one of the most successful teams in MLS history.
In only their second year of competition, Atlanta United won the MLS Cup Championship and qualified for 2019 CONCACAF Champions League.
Another accomplishment that will be credited to Eales, is the remarkable attendance records that Atlanta United has recorded at home matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Bobby Dodd Stadium in the inaugural season of 2017.
Atlanta United radio play by play voice Mike Conti, broke the news of Eales resignation from Atlanta United on the Midday Show with Andy & Randy, and Conti had many wonderful things to say about the Darren Eales regime.
“This is a monumental change in direction for Atlanta United, as he is the only president that Atlanta United has ever had” emphasized Conti when reflection on the eight years under Eales for Atlanta United.
Conti went on to say, “Darren Eales has been the man that has built this club from day one. This is truly the end of an era.”
Eales will stay with Atlanta United until August 8, 2022 and will assume his new role of CEO of New Castel United on August 22.
