Two games into the 2022 season the Atlanta United FC (1-1) have played two games that were on total opposite ends of the judgement scale.
In the season opener at home against Sporting KC, the Five Stripes executed beautifully on both the offensive and defensive ends of the pitch, on their way to a 3-1 victory, in front of a rambunctious home crowd.
However, in the case of this past Sunday’s road contest at Colorado Rapids FC, not many things went well, and the Stripes fell to Colorado in disappointing fashion, 3-Nil.
Going into the match already missing several key players still not available due to visa restrictions or injuries, the Five Stripes were handed another blow to the roster when veteran Osvaldo Alonso was ruled out shortly before the match due to precautions.
But, better days and healthier players should be coming soon for ATLFC, and President Darren Eales, Manager Gonzalo Pineda, and others in the front office will be happy when they Five Stripes have their full roster on hand.
When Eales joined Dukes and Bell this week to discuss the current status of the roster, Darren was very happy to update the situation with the guys.
“Hopefully we will have him back for the weekend” said Eales when giving an update on Alonso’s status, as he saw a cardiologist this week as part of the precautionary measures.
Eales was also super delighted to inform D&B, “We are pretty confident we will get Thiago Almada into the country this week.”
Almada was the prize acquisition of the off season, and his arrival has been highly anticipated.
The Five Stripes return to the pitch this Sunday as they will welcome expansion Charlotte (0-2) into Mercedes Benz Stadium for a 4:30 pm kickoff
