What Atlanta United will look like under Garth Lagerwey

Atlanta United President Garth Lagerwey joined Dukes & Bell for the first time since being named president of the team and talked about what Atlanta United might look like under his leadership.

When asked what style of play he will try to achieve.

“When I was in Salt Lake we had a hyper specialized system, a 4-4-2 diamond, we were the only team in the league that played that way and we recruited really specialized players that played in that system and only that system,” Lareth said. “And then I went to Seattle and I organized and was part of a much more unstructured system where we were just there to maximize the salary cap and we would sign the best players and then we would kinda figure it out afterwards. I’ve kinda done both ends of the spectrum and I’m here again to come in and support Gonzalo and Carlos, they’ll tell me how they wanna play and we’ll do our best to get the resources in place to try and affect that.”

Lagerwey talked about his success in the MLS.

“I’ve had, in my fifteen year career four different head coaches and I’ve made the playoffs with all of them so really looking forward to working with Gonzalo and hopefully if I can go five for five that’ll mean good things for Atlanta United.”
