Braves will not be able to 'slug their way through' the playoffs

Audacy MLB Insider Bob Nightengale shares his thoughts with Jon Chuckery on the Braves needing a 'dominant' pitcher or two

There’s no doubt that the Atlanta Braves have one of the most explosive and dominant offense in Major League Baseball this season. To date, the Braves lead the Majors with an .841 OPS and in homeruns with 217. Atlanta’s 1054 hits have them sitting in second behind the Rangers and they are currently tied with the Angels for second in runs produced.

“Do you think that Braves’ offense is good enough that they can slug their way through getting into the playoffs,” 92-9 The Game’s Jon Chuckery asked Audacy MLB Insider Bob Nightengale on Thursday night as they discussed the club and other MLB related headlines. However, in relation to the Braves question, the evening host wanted to get Nightengale’s thoughts due to Atlanta’s recent starting pitching issues. “Or do you still have to have one of those dominant pitchers,” Chcukery asked.

In response, Nightengale did not hesitate to let Chuckery know that he believes that having a ‘dominant’ pitcher will be necessary or any club to find success. “How many times can a team outweigh its pitching problems by just with offense? It doesn’t happen, you go to pitch to win,” Nightengale would say in his answer to Chuckery’s question adding that teams have to have “one or two guys step up, preferably at least two guys to be those dominant guys to pitch those shut out games,”.
