Cambridge completes series sweep of Blessed Trinity with 7-4 win

Cambridge improves to 18-3 with region win over Blessed Trinity

With an opportunity to extend their lead in the Georgia High School Association Class 5A, Region 6 standings , the Cambridge Bears travel to face the Blessed Trinity Titans, looking to complete the regular season series sweep of the Titans, and move three games ahead of them, and looked well on their way early on after jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

By the end of the top half of the third inning, the Bears would find themselves leading Blessed Trinity 7-0, and with senior pitcher and Brown University commit, Lily Kimble having already struck out three batters in the game, Cambridge appeared to be in control and well on their way to victory, until the Titans were able to begin a rally in the bottom of the third inning, having scored three runs and trailing 7-3.

"We jumped out early and got a nice lead and then they had the big inning in the middle of the game to keep it interesting," Cambridge head coach, Mike Cason said of Blessed Trinity presenting "some adversity" and battling back to get within three runs of Cambridge. "Hats off to them for battling back and making a game of it," Cason said of the Titans.

As the games continued, with Kimble, who finished with seven strikeouts, continuing to perform well in the circle and getting good defensive play behind her, Cambridge maintained their 7-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, however Blessed Trinity would appear to begin another rally after a two out, RBI single by Christina Wright, would bring the Titans with three runs as they trailed 7-4.

Two batters later, Kimble would face Blessed Trinity's Piper O'Neal with runners at first and third base and record her seventh strikeout for the third out of the inning and helping the Bears hold on for the win, improving to 18-3 overall and 10-0 in region play.

"Our pitcher, Lily [Kimble] just makes pitch after pitch, game after game," Cason said of the performance by the Brown University commit, as well as praising the defensive play of his team, particularly when they completed a heads up triple-play in the bottom of the sixth inning. "We found enough plays to finish it out," Cason said.

Cambridge will continue region play on Monday when they travel to face Northview.
