Can the Falcons have a historic backfield season

Jon Chuckery and Joe Patrick discuss the potential of the Falcons having two running backs rush for 1,000 yards this season

The last time an NFL team had two running backs rush for 1,000 plus yards in the same season was when Jonathan Stewart did it for the Carolina Panthers back in 2009. In 2019, the Baltimore Ravens saw both quarterback, Lamar Jackson and running back Mark Ingram become the last duo of offensive players to rush for 1,000 or more yards in the same season.

As the Atlanta Falcons have wrapped up minicamp and will set their eyes on training camp, 92-9 The Game’s Jon Chuckery spoke with Joe Patrick, The Game’s Atlanta Falcons reporter, who have been covering Atlanta’s minicamp, about the potential of second year running back, Tyler Allgeier and rookie running back, Bijan Robinson, becoming the next pair of backs to make the historic mark.

“I think if there’s any team where that would be possible, it’s this Falcons team with the way Arthur Smith likes to play. He’s so comfortable just running the ball over and over and over again,” Patrick shared with Chuckery. And while Allgeier and Robison could be the first running back tandem to reach the feat for the Falcons, it would not be the first time two Falcons players would have rushed for 1,000 yards in the same season as Michael Vick and Warrick Dunn did it back in 2006.

And with Allgeier coming off of a rookie season in which he rushed for 1,035 yards and Robinson coming in and garnering a lot of praise from NFL analyst for his explosive style of play having had back to back 1,000+ plus rushing yards the past two seasons at Texas, Patrick shared with Chuckery, “I just can’t wait to see a player like him in tandem with a player like we saw in Tyler Allgeier last year. It should be fun to watch,”.
