12-team College Football Playoff not only for the fans; really all about money

After years and years of debate and speculation, major college football finally introduced a playoff system in 2014. In the new system, the top four teams as selected by a national committee would battle it out on the field for the right to be crowned National Champions.

For most football fans and supporters, this was what was always missing from the equation. No longer would a computer system decide what two teams would play for the title.

But just as quickly as the new system was implemented, new criticisms arose. Why only four teams? Are the committee members truly unbiased?

Without a doubt, the College Football Playoff (CFP), has been an enormous success. But the debate over why only four teams grew louder as every year passed.

As a result, the CFP has recently decided to expand the playoffs to a 12-team system. The new expansion will create the potential of mega matchups in the early rounds of the playoffs for everyone to enjoy.

But unlike a regular season contest or the major bowls that will still be used as the semi-finals and championship game, the locations and host schools of the early round playoff games will not be known until mere days before the games.

Mike Griffith of DawgNation joined The Morning Show with John and Hugh recently to share his opinion on the new playoff expansion.

Griffith explained how the decision to expand the CFP was not done with the average fan in mind.  Griffith continued to explain how college football will see great economic rewards from the playoff expansion and that how mostly the major donors and boosters to the college programs will have access to tickets and find the way to make it to the new early round contests.

“The only fans the schools worry about and actually cater to, are the major donors” said Griffith in a moment of honesty with John and Hugh.

The new playoff system will not begin for a few more seasons, but the debate over why the decision to expand was really made will continue daily.
