On Tuesday, the defending Georgia High School Association Class 5A softball champions, the Creekview Grizzlies, returned to the field of action as they were on the road to take on region opponent, the Riverwood Raiders, who lost to the Grizzlies back in August and entered the night trailing Creekview by a game in the region standings.

With both Riverwood's May Weis and Creekview's Jaiyden Griffeth pitching well from the circle, the game would remain scoreless until the top of the third and the Grizzlies scored four runs, taking a 4-0 lead.

"The first inning she pitched well against us and we kind of knew what we needed to do," Creekview head coach, Jen Maloney, said of her team making adjustments against Weis in order to get their offense going, which continued in the top of the fourth inning as the Grizzlies added two more runs to increase their lead to 6-0.

"This group just continued to battle," Maloney continued as she praised her players for coming up with a plan to find success against Weis. "Whenever they got up to bat they executed that plan and they just swung hard," Maloney said of the Grizzlies and their confidence at the plate.

"They swung hard, put the ball in play and that's all you can ask of them," Maloney said as Creekview would go on to pick up the 7-0 win and improve to 14-1 on the season and more importantly, 7-1 in region play and now move into a first place tie with Lassiter, who loss to Woodstock on Tuesday and handed the Grizzlies their only loss of the season thus far.

"We really just want to focus on playing Creekview softball. Obviously things are going to happen around us but if we come out and we compete like I know we can and stay the team that we are, and just compete and be resilient and just take it to everybody else, they everything is going to play out like it needs to," Maloney said of the Grizzlies mindset down the stretch of the regular season.

Creekview will be back in action on Thursday when they host Lassiter and look to avenge their only loss and take sole possession of first place in the region standings.
