Deion Sanders is not only one of the greatest football players in NFL history, Sanders is a true superstar. His most recent tenure with Jackson State University from 2020-2022, leading them to two consecutive Celebration Bowl appearances and first undefeated season in school history turned a lot of heads in the sports world. He brought attention to HBCUs and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Sanders has recently taken on the head coaching Role at Colorado.
The Commissioner of the SWAC, Dr. Charles McClelland joined Sam and Greg on Saturday to discuss Sanders’s impact on the SWAC as a whole.
“We have outlasted some Fortune 500 companies, we even outlasted some countries in itself," McClelland said. "So we were here before Coach Prime, and what Coach Prime ultimately did was show a portion of America that had never seen the Southwestern Athletic Conference before.” This further shows the macro impact Sanders has had on the college football scene.
Although Sanders can be a polarizing figure with his flamboyant and bigger-than-life persona, his impact on college football and the teams he has been a part of is indisputable. As Commissioner McClelland alluded to, he is able to bring new eyes to the conference that may not have viewed otherwise. The world will be tuned in to see what he is able to achieve with Colorado.
