There is not a whole lot we don’t already know about Derek Jeter, but the new seven-part documentary “The Captain” reportedly shows the New York Yankees legend open up about a few things we have never heard him discuss before.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina, who has screened the first five episodes, fans will indeed see Jeter open up about a number of topics, including the infamous gift basket rumor.

Traina did not spoil anything other than listing it as a topic the Hall of Famer addresses, but it is one that may even get non-Yankee fans to tune in and see if it is indeed true that he would send a gift basket to women he would romantically encounter the previous night.
There are some other, more serious topics, Jeter addresses as well.
According to Traina, some of the more compelling moments are when Jeter discusses race, specifically addressing a comment Gary Sheffield once made that Jeter “wasn’t all the way black” and that Yankees manager Joe Torre treated Black players differently.
“The Captain” premieres 10 p.m. ET on July 18 after the Home Run Derby on ESPN.
