Does Taylor Heinicke provide 'less anxiety' for the Falcons offense

Wes Durham explains what Taylor Heinicke's experience can do for the Falcons offense

While we know that Taylor Heinicke will be the Falcons starting quarterback on Sunday when they face the Minnesota Vikings, there is no certainty that he will remain in the QB1 seat beyond that as head coach made it clear on Wednesday that the change at signal caller was for this week and not necessarily for the future. However, Heinicke’s performance in Sunday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans appeared to create “less anxiety around our offense” as noted by Steak Shapiro as he and Sandra Golden were joined by Falcons play by play announcer Wes Durham on The Steakhouse.

Shapiro made his comments as the trio discussed how the Falcons offense may look this week with Heinicke under center in response to Durham explaining that as a back up quarterback, Heinicke enter the game and “did exactly what you’re supposed to do when you’re the back up quarterback,”.
However, Durham would expound on his comments detailing that over Heinicke’s career as a starter, he is “a five hundred player” with a record of 12-12-1, yet he believes that the Georgia native showed signs of being able to have a positive impact on the offense.

“I think he showed you in the second half, he can move the ball, he can throw it to all verticals, which Desmond can too, but he’s got enough momentum and experience under his belt that he tends to play within the structure and with a little more poise,” Durham told Shapiro and Golden. The play by play announcer would add that while he recalls seeing Heinicke perform on late game winning drives during his time with the Commanders, he “interested to see what his personality and his playing style, how it mixes and what it does early in the game as much as what it does late,” Durham said.
