After the additions of Pro Bowlers Matthew Judon and Justin Simmons, the optimism for the Falcons’ season has seemed to grow positively and not just with fans of the franchise, as national media members appear to be riding high on Atlanta, including ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky, who believes the Falcons are a “legit” Super Bowl contender.

On Friday, Drew Butler and Abe Gordon shared their thoughts on the NFL analyst telling Stephen A. Smith that with the offseason signing of Kirk Cousins to go along with their “dynamically talented” offense and the recent acquisitions of Judon and Simmons, is the reason for his belief in the Falcons being in the mix for the Super Bowl.

“Kirk Cousins brings a level of quarterback play that this city hasn’t seen in three years,” Butler said as he explained to Gordon why being in agreeance with Orlovsky should not be considered a bad take on the Falcons. “The guy wins football games,” Butler would go on to say and continued to share why he believes Cousins, Judon and Simmons joining the Falcons is a formula seen before that led to a championship.

“The Rams went out and made an aggressive trade to get a quarterback from the NFC North, of course that was Matthew Stafford,” Butler said as he noted that at the time Stafford was viewed as never having success in the playoffs. “Well guess what? Year one, in Los Angeles,” Butler began as he broke down why the Falcons moves can be compared to those of the 2021 Rams.

“Yes, they went out and got Vaughn Miller, very similar to the Matthew Judon move that the Falcons made a week ago. A pass rusher that can get the quarterback on the ground. They won the Super Bowl in Matthew Stafford’s first year in Los Angeles. Now compare that to the Falcons of this season,” Butler said of the similarities of the Falcons moves to the 2021 Rams.
