It was pretty much assumed that Lakers head coach Frank Vogel would be the main scapegoat for the disaster of a season that just took place in Los Angeles, losing his job in the process.
During his post-game press conference after his teams' 146-141 victory against the Denver Nuggets, a report came out claiming that L.A. would be firing Vogel. However, according to the 48-year-old coach, he didn't hear a single thing until reporters brought it up.
Only a few moments after the Lakers' final game of the season, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news, tweeting that the team was planning on parting ways with Vogel.
Vogel, who was completely unaware of the report once he got to the podium, said he hasn't been told "s***," making for one of the most awkward post-game pressers you'll ever see.
“I haven’t been told s–t and I’m going to enjoy tonight’s game, celebrate what these young guys did, in terms of scratching and clawing and impacting this game and getting a W, and we’ll deal with tomorrow tomorrow,” Vogel said when asked about his job status. “I’m going to enjoy tonight’s game and what our guys did tonight and the way we finished out this season."
Many criticized the timing of Wojnarowski’s tweet, including former Lakers Robert Horry and James Worthy, calling it 'unfair' to Vogel.
“Tomorrow maybe? But a minute after the game, give the coach a press conference after the game,” Worthy said during Spectrum Sports post-game coverage.
Vogel's job security has been in question ever since the new look Lakers roster failed to meet the expectations that were placed on them during the offseason.
The 33-49 Lakers are going to be sitting on the couch, watching the playoffs for the second time in four seasons after being the preseason favorites to win the Western Conference.
The offseason should be very interesting for the Lakers. We could see another massive roster change. With Vogel gone, some are speculating that Sixers coach Doc Rivers is the lead candidate for the front office.
