Expectations in Athens are soaring, as they normally do, and much of that is centered around the quarterback. It's year two of JT Daniels and offensive coordinator Todd Monken running the offense in Athens, so those expectations make sense. This offense also returns a significant amount of talent in the receiving game, even after the injury to George Pickens last month.
So how high could the ceiling be for JT Daniels?
In the In a G-Day Edition of College Football Gametime, the guys were partaking in Jon Chuckery's World Famous Buy or Sell segment. He posed the question, "Could JT Daniels break the single season passing record at Georgia this year?" The record of 3,893 yards was set in 2012 and currently held by Aaron Murray.
Chris Goforth bought that saying that, "Georgia is going to get the chance to play a lot of football this year. (He) would be surprised if they didn't get that extra game from the SEC Championship Game and then at least one, maybe two bowl games." Randy McMichael agreed, "Oh, I'll buy that all day."
Later in the show, the guys welcomed Brandon Adams from DawgNation and they posed that question to him. He said, "I'll certainly buy that he'll have the chance to it, but not necessarily that he will. Given what Monken wants to do and given that Daniels has the capability to it, I'll certainly buy that he'll have the chance to do it, but probably sell on the notion that he gets it done."
Kirby Smart has gone on record to say that he wants more of a vertical threat on offense, and he has the quarterback to get it done. In this age of college football, teams absolutely have to have that capability. Todd Moken's preference is to throw the ball all over the field. If he gets his way, that passing record certainly could be threatened.
