The Georgia Bulldogs appeared to be a lock for the College Football Playoff, without needing to win an SEC Championship. After the trio of Alabama, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss each suffered stunning losses over the weekend, the Bulldogs are now being asked to play a thirteenth game against what will be its sixth top-20 opponent this season. Do they have a right to be upset about having to play this game?
The Steakhouse reacted to wild weekend that pulled Georgia back into Atlanta and discussed how they could be feeling about having an extra game put on their schedule.
"The fact that they have to go through the toughest schedule in college football, then play their rivalry game," Steak said on Monday morning. "And now [they] get invited -- as if they're supposed to celebrate -- to play up the street [eight] days later against another SEC team, another top SEC team!"
Before the fallout of Saturday's games, a path for the Dawgs to make the final field of 12 was quite clear -- beat Georgia Tech and take your rest. They could then leave the SEC Championship battle to be fought by Alabama, Ole Miss, Texas, or Texas A&M.
Steak continued, "We're comfortable getting our three weeks off, not going to the SEC title game, and then gearing up for a four-game winning streak."
But should they be this upset? The invitation to the the title game also presents them with an opportunity to take home an SEC Championship and stake their claim as the top team from the nation's best conference. Then, it would afford them an opportunity to rest and recuperate while their eventual opponent is tasked with playing that extra game.
The risk is if you lose the game in Atlanta against either Texas or Texas A&M and then you're tasked with having to play as many as 17 games to win a national title.
