After leading the Georgia offense in receptions, yards and touchdowns a season ago, you may be surprised that Brock Bowers has just five catches through the Bulldogs' first two games, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t had a huge impact for the Dawgs.

Sean McDonough is on the call for this weekend's SEC opener for UGA in Columbia, and as a Boston native, he told ‘The Steakhouse’ on 92.9 The Game that Bowers’ ability to attract attention reminds him of Rob Gronkowski.

“They haven’t really even maximized what Bowers can do, and I think that’s one of the reasons why the passing game is so wide open is people know they have to pay attention to him. It reminds me of watching the Patriots all these years when they had Gronkowski. He made everybody else in the receiving crops better because the other team had to pay extra attention to him,” McDonough said.

To McDonough’s point, the attention Bowers commands has allowed Stetson Bennett to spread the ball around the field. It also doesn’t help Bowers from a statical standpoint that the Bulldogs have been able to take their foot off the gas with two blowouts in the first two weeks of the season.

This weekend may be more out about Georgia’s rushing attack, facing a Gamecock defense that ranks 129th against the run through the first few weeks of the season. Kendall Milton leads the way for the Dawgs' ground game so far with Kenny McIntosh and Daijuan Edwards factoring into the rotation.

The sports media veteran called the Dawgs' season-opening blowout over Oregon, so he’s already seen up close what Kirby Smart’s team is capable of and looking ahead, McDonough shared his opinion that UGA will be the better team on the field in every game on their schedule. As far as how they stack up against Alabama, McDonough says Georgia has closed the gap as a program.

“To me, Alabama and Georgia are in the exact same place now. I don’t think it’s Alabama is ahead and Georgia’s trying to catch them. I think they’re neck-and-neck, and it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they played for the National Championship again,” he said.

McDonough and Todd Blackledge will be in the booth when UGA and South Carolina kick off this Saturday at noon. Check out the full interview from today’s show below:
